Rory Kinnear, 17 Şubat 1978 tarihinde Londra, İngiltere'de, tanınmış karakter oyuncusu Roy Kinnear ve aktris Carmel Cryan'ın oğlu olarak dünyaya gelmiştir. Sanatla iç içe bir ailede büyümesine rağmen başlangıçta oyunculuğu bir kariyer olarak düşünmemiş, Oxford Üniversitesi'nde İngilizce eğitimi almıştır.
