Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor, 10 Temmuz 1977 tarihinde Forest Gate, Londra, İngiltere'de dünyaya gelmiştir. Nijerya kökenli Igbo bir ailenin çocuğu olan Ejiofor, babası doktor, annesi ise eczacıydı. Hayatını derinden etkileyen bir trajedi yaşadı; 11 yaşındayken ailesiyle Nijerya'yı ziyaret ettikleri sırada geçirdikleri trafik kazasında babasını kaybetti ve kendisi de ağır yaralandı.
