Matthias Schoenaerts, 8 Aralık 1977 tarihinde Anvers, Belçika'da dünyaya gelmiştir. Sanatla iç içe bir ailede büyüyen Schoenaerts, Belçika'nın efsanevi aktörlerinden Julien Schoenaerts'in oğludur.
